It is because of the lack of guidance and awareness. I know there is a concept called recycling but i dont know the methods to recycle the products used by us in our daily lives. The government should make recycling mandatory and punish people failing to do so.

Its the irresponsibility on part of government and more than that of people because they don't care to put waste even in the dustbin.... educated people... what do we expect of uneducated.

If we have to use plastic, and realistically I think we do, corn-based plastic food containers (see my Oct. 22 post), as compared with oil-based ones, seem to be the closest we’ve come yet to lowering the burden on our ever-growing landfills. Yet the only real way to lessen the burden is if more people recycle instead of throwing everything into the garbage. Countless cities throughout the United States now have programs in which they’ll pick up recyclable items right outside our doorsteps, but too many people aren’t using them. I figure these malfeasants come under four groups.

1. Some people refuse to recycle because they don’t care about it. It’s their human nature. (I compare them with shoppers who abandon their grocery carts in the middle of the parking lot, where they’ll block traffic, instead of bringing them back to the provided nooks.)

2. Some people actually forget that they could recycle instead.

3. Others pull the old non-voting excuse: "There are so many other people recycling, it won’t matter if I throw away the little garbage I have." And then there’s...

4. Those who are just too lazy to get off their butts and put their recyclable items into separate containers, then carry them down to the curb. Apparently bringing several containers down besides their garbage takes too much effort.

Sadly, people ARE lazy. Some people also don't really care for the planet because they don't think that what's happening to the planet will effect them.
it DOES!

I suggest, if you really care about the environment(and i thank you!) that you should suggest a recycling team in your school, if there is not one already. and if there already is JOIN IT! spread the word around and if you see recycable objects lying around, pick them up and recycle them!!

SERIOUSLY, how hard is it? just make two seperate trash cans. and put it out just like you would for trash, except on the days that recycled items are collected. IT DOES SO MUCH. i'm wondering, why people dont' do such a simple thing which could help the earth in such a HUGE WAY.

and don't tell me people are lazy.

People are not aware of the benefits of recycling. There should be proper awareness program to be spread across. They are not lazy, its just when you have so much of resources available around you like use and throw and in this fast pace world people eventually find no time in concentrating on this recycling. Only when there is scarcity of resources we'll realize the benefits of recycling.
