Default Re-use is better than recycling!

Recycling is of course important if we are to conserve resources, however re-use is perhaps even more vital. It is appalling how much perfectly good stuff is thrown into rubbish tips, often because people simply can't be bothered to pass it on.

Here is a solution perhaps - there is a website which lets you advertise your unwanted goods and give them to people who need them. Likewise you can search for free items that people are giving away in your area.

Interesting.. So like the clothes charity? When you grow out of them you pass them on? I might try keeping all my plastic bags in a cupboard to store and use if i need. and re-use the.

You have a point - the logical sequence is use -re-use-recycle- discard.

well reusing is a good idea for some things but not for all. we can reuse the cloths and stuff but not the garbage like bags and stuff.

I like this idea. Its good to re-use instead of recyle it but we cant practise this to everything. Its only a few item we can re-use.

I agree a lot of the things we throw away coul dhave some value to other people. I make a point to drop stuff off for a local charity rather than throw it away.

Well while reusing may be good in some cases, there are certain items that seem more logical to recycle such as batteries or pieces of scrap that we have lying around.

An old car that we don't use any more will probably be better off in a junk yard than sitting in your garage collecting dust. But if the vehicle is working fine and can still be driven again than perhaps giving it away or selling it may be a better option as someone else can put it to good use.
